Businesses across the United States are striving to adapt to new energy efficiency standards put forth by the Clean Power Plan in 2015. These new standards that call for major reductions in energy consumption have required adaptations for many businesses in the construction industry in particular. However, to help propel the plan forward, the EPA has established a system of credits (the Clean Energy Incentive Program) for the implementation of renewable energy sources.
The program rewards early investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects that serve low-income communities; however, these credits don’t extend to efforts for improving energy efficiency. A number of different entities are pushing for the EPA to extend the credit system to energy efficiency efforts to help improve the nationwide drive to meet the Clean Power Plan.
