Johns Manville Announces Increased R-Value and Canadian Construction Materials Centre Approval for JM Spider® Spray-in Custom Fibre Glass Insulation

Johns Manville (JM), a Berkshire Hathaway company and leading building products manufacturer, has announced that its signature JM Spider® Spray-in custom fibre glass insulation has received Canadian Construction Materials Centre approval (CCMC 13212-R) for a thermal resistance of R-24 in a 2x6 wall cavity, complying with 2010 National Building Codes. The product previously offered a thermal resistance up to R-23 in a 2x6 wall cavity.

JM Spider is a professionally installed spray-in fibre glass insulation system that fills framing cavities completely, leaving no gaps or voids. JM Spider can be used in wall and overhead applications in both wood and steel framing.

CCMC operates within the National Research Council of Canada and offers a national evaluation service for all types of innovative building construction materials, products, systems and services. CCMC evaluations are supported by the latest technical research and expertise and are based on the requirements of the National Building Code of Canada or Provincial/Territorial Building Codes.

“By increasing JM Spider’s thermal resistance from R-23 to R-24, we’re helping our Canadian customers more easily turn to this unique product – the only spray-in fibre glass insulation product available in Canada – to meet code for a range of project demands,” said Fred Stephan, senior vice president of Insulation Systems at Johns Manville. “This is just another way we’re offering our Canadian customers more options and greater flexibility.”

Earlier this year, JM added commercial and residential mineral wool to its full spectrum of insulation products, giving Canadian customers more options, security and flexibility when sourcing mineral wool to meet project demands. JM mineral wool insulation offers a variety of performance benefits in both commercial and residential construction. With a high melting point in excess of 1093˚C, mineral wool can help delay fire spread, create quieter buildings and homes, increase privacy between rooms, and reduce heating and cooling costs by keeping structures warm in winter and cool in summer.

Incredibly easy to install, JM Spider offers convenience and saves time, while offering superior thermal and acoustical performance. The JM Spider product is available immediately to all Canadian customers. To learn more, visit www.jm.com or talk to your product manager.
