Two Johns Manville Executives Named as Finalists in the 2014 Denver Business Journal C-Suite Awards

Johns Manville (JM), a Berkshire Hathaway company and global building and specialty products manufacturer, is proud to announce that two of its executives were recognized as finalists in the 2014 C-Suite Awards from the Denver Business Journal (DBJ). JM Senior Vice President & General Counsel Cynthia Ryan was a finalist in the Chief Legal Counsel category and JM Vice President & Chief Information Officer (CIO) John Shellenberger was a finalist in the CIO category.

“It’s always special to receive recognition from a respected publication like the Denver Business Journal,” said Ryan. “I was honored to be considered as a finalist, and to share this recognition with my team in the JM Legal & Risk Management department. Their support and dedication help me be an effective leader and meet our critical goals around compliance, employee safety and sustainability.”

Ryan is the first female chief legal officer in Johns Manville’s 155-year history. Among her accomplishments in her 12 years at JM, she has developed a highly efficient and knowledgeable team; spearheaded important initiatives to increase revenue; and co-led Johns Manville’s first Women’s Mentoring Circle to help women in the company advance their careers.

Shellenberger has steadily climbed the corporate ladder at JM since joining the company in 1992. His knowledge of the business and proactive approach to delivering integrated IT services has resulted in higher employee productivity and greater systems reliability at lower operating costs.

“Being selected as a finalist in the C-Suite Awards is humbling and gratifying,” said Shellenberger. “It’s nice to have independent validation that the work we’re doing at JM to create more inventive and on-target technology solutions for our customers and employees is not only valued at JM, but also in the community.”

The winners of the DBJ C-Suite Awards were announced at a luncheon on Tuesday, April 29 at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver.

“John and Cindy both exemplify the powerful and positive JM Experiences we bring to our customers and employees that drive lasting relationships, sustainable competitive advantage and profitable growth,” said JM CEO Mary Rhinehart. “John is incredibly collaborative and forward-thinking. Cindy brings a sense of passion and energy that inspires others. We are fortunate to have them as part of our executive management team.”

An independent judging panel scored the nominees’ questionnaires to determine three finalists in each category and which of the three candidates would be the winner. This week’s issue of the DBJ will feature profiles on Ryan and Shellenberger.
