The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Power Plan aims to reduce carbon pollution from the nation’s power plants by 32 percent from 2005 levels by setting a carbon reduction goal for each state. For its part, the National Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) supports the EPA decision to allow states to rely on demand-side energy efficiency as a means of complying with their carbon dioxide reduction targets.
According to NAIMA, energy efficiency has consistently proven to be among the lowest-cost methods to achieve CO2 reduction, and the organization is urging states to focus on this tactic to achieve their goals. One resource they recommend to meet compliance plans is the comprehensive Menu of Options generated by the National Association of Clean Air Agencies. Among these: Optimize power plant operations by improving thermal efficiency.
