NAIMA’s Report on Thermal Performance of Insulation Coatings

The National Insulation Manufacturer’s Association examined the question that insulation customers often ask: “How do ceramic coatings provide superior thermal resistance in thicknesses of a few ten thousandths of an inch?” They wanted to know ,”How can a designer or owner compare the thermal performance and value of traditional insulation materials against the new ‘high tech’ ceramic coatings?”

So NAIMA did some rigorous testing with the help of an independent laboratory and compared the coatings in question to traditional industrial insulation. Result: “The coatings, even at thicknesses above those typically installed in field use are much less effective as insulators than 1/2 inch of mineral fiber insulation.”
