The 2015 Global Status Report On Renewable Energy

The Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century ( REN21 ) has just released its authoritative Global Status Report (GSR) on renewable energy, and it includes some eye-opening data:

  • In 2014, renewable fuels (primarily wind, solar and hydro) accounted for more new global power-generating capacity than fossil fuels (coal and gas).
  • Renewable energy provided an estimated 19.1% of global final energy consumption in 2013, and growth in capacity and generation expanded n 2014.
  • Last year, global investment in renewable power and fuels totaled $270 billion.
  • The nation making the largest total investment in renewables in 2014 was China.
