BURSI Brings Roofing Education to Hershey, PA

Since 1972, the Better Understanding of Roofing Systems Institute (BURSI) has been dedicated to educating the design community about commercial roofing systems. Certified by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC), BURSI continues to set the standard for industry learning.

Recently, BURSI hosted a two-day event in Hershey, Pennsylvania, drawing a full house of attendees eager to expand their roofing knowledge. And yes, the sweet aroma of chocolate in the lobby made this event even more memorable!

Day One: Accredited Education for the Design Community

The first day focused on accredited learning for architects and consultants. Sessions covered critical topics such as roof maintenance, photovoltaic integration, resilience, building codes, and more. These presentations were led by experts from JM Product Management, Owner Services Technical, and Performance Roofing Associates, ensuring attendees walked away with actionable insights for real-world projects.

Day Two: Hands-On Learning for Contractors

The second day shifted gears to contractors, offering a deep dive into product knowledge and practical application. Topics included Thermoplastics, Thermoset, Modified systems, and open discussions on best practices. This interactive format encouraged collaboration and knowledge sharing among industry professionals.

Live Demos and Product Showcases

Both days featured live demonstrations led by JM’s technical education team, including our Chicago Technical Representative and two Northeast Sales Representatives. Attendees got hands-on exposure to products and techniques such as Dynaset 1K, EPDM FIT SA, flashing details, induction welding, vapor barriers, and QuickFoam® application, skills that make a difference on the job site.
