JM Athlete Chris McBride
WHAT IS YOUR ROLE WITHIN JOHNS MANVILLE?

I am the Process Development Leader for our Composites business.

WHAT WAS THE VERY FIRST RUNNING EVENT YOU PARTICIPATED IN?

My first real racing event was the elementary school field day. I raced the 400m which at 6 years old was an endurance event. My dad told me to not go crazy and chase the kids going out too fast, be patient and wait to kick at the end of the race. I followed my dad’s advice and won the event. Years later on field day for my sons I was able to pass on the same advice.

IS THERE SOMETHING YOU WOULD CONSIDER AS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT?

I am still working on my greatest achievement! I am very proud of many of my running achievements, but I can’t help but dream about the perfect race, tougher mountains, longer distances or coaching a future champion. I love making big dreamy goals and training to accomplish them.

HAND ON HEART - IS THERE A FUN FACT ABOUT YOU THAT WE ALL SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?

Once running in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) in knee high dense grass I scared up a Mozambique Spitting Cobra. It was easily identified as a Cobra but I had no idea it was a Spitting Cobra. Not realizing I was in danger at a few meters away I tried to get a picture. Before I could get my camera out (before we carried phones for cameras) it moved away and I lost it in the grass. It was a very spooky run back to the road.

"A mile is a good unit for measuring effort. We all have control over our effort and to me going the #JMextraMile is giving an extra effort. Some days the extra effort is an early start to the day or one more phone call at the end of the day. Extra effort is a great tool that is afforded everyone."
