DENVER — October 5, 2023 — Johns Manville (JM), a Berkshire Hathaway company and leading building products manufacturer, held its fifth “Global Community Day” in September to support local, community service organizations and promote employee volunteerism. More than 1,000 JM employees worldwide volunteered nearly 3,500 hours, participating in almost 50 events and activities.
Global Community Day was launched in 2018 as part of Johns Manville’s Corporate Social Responsibility program. JM’s community investment strategy is employee driven, meaning the company supports causes and programs selected by its employees. Each Global Community Day activity was organized by a different company department or location.
In the Denver area, where Johns Manville is headquartered, employees observed Global Community Day by assembling meals and sorting food at a local food bank, constructing a community vegetable garden at a local police station, and conducting a bake sale to support babies born to under-resourced families in the Denver area, among other projects. Two of the larger activities were a bike build with Denver-based Wish for Wheels, a nonprofit organization that gives new bicycles and helmets to children in low-income communities and lending a hand to the nationwide 9/11 Day meal pack program supporting people experiencing food insecurity.
At plant locations around the world, employees cleaned up graffiti, provided healthy snacks to school children, constructed homes with Habitat for Humanity and assisted with a fishing tournament for special needs children, among many projects planned.
“Global Community Day is an important and meaningful effort for JM,” said President and CEO Bob Wamboldt. “The variety of projects benefit the communities where we live and work. I am proud that JMers give their time and support to so many wonderful causes around the world.”
