Donations Instead of Gifts

It has become a tradition for the Johns Manville sites in Germany to refrain from sending Christmas presents to business partners during the Holiday Season. Instead, they donate to charitable organizations that look after the welfare of children and young people in our communities.

Wertheim‘s Plant Manager Alexander Ueckert personally visited two kindergartens that are located near the JM plant. The donations will help ensure that the facilities can continue their excellent work in supporting children in their development. Also, a special-needs-school in the city received financial support to provide help for kids who are of school age but not (yet) ready for it.

Our teams in Bobingen have donated to the charity organizations "Papilio" and “Glühwürmchen” (Firefly). Monika Nagl, Group Plant Manager Bobingen/Berlin, visited both in Augsburg, Germany. Papilio has developed programs and trains educators to positively support children in their early development to give equal opportunities for all later in life. With the help of these programs, the kids learn in a playful way to deal with their own feelings such as joy, fear, anger, and sadness and to master conflict situations. Papilio will use the JM donation to equip daycare centers with "emotional barometers" made from cardboard which help children to think about their current emotional state and express it to their environment. For this, Papilio has developed a story-telling program together with one of Germany’s most famous puppet theaters, the “Augsburger Puppenkiste”.

Johns Manville in Bobingen has partnered up with Glühwürmchen for about 15 years. The charity cares for children in the community suffering from cancer, chronic diseases, and other serious illnesses. The donation will help cover the cost of, for example, high-quality wigs for kids in therapy, support in nursing care, financing of a sports therapist, family outings, handicapped accessible transportation or the expansion of the roof terrace in the Children's Cancer Center Augsburg.

The JM plant in Berlin has also been affiliated with a local charity for a long time. “Die Arche” (The Ark) is a Christian children’s and youth project that combats the material and emotional impacts of child poverty and fights for more equal opportunities regardless of social and cultural background.

JM in Steinach contributes to the local elementary school’s goal of promoting children's digital media education early on. Furthermore, they donated to the daycare center "Villa Sonnenschein" and the towns sports club, offering physical activity for young and old.

All these facilities truly go the extra mile, and we are glad to have been able to support them in doing so.
