Johns Manville Employees in Germany Run for Refugees

Seventeen Johns Manville employees and one four-legged friend from the company’s Wertheim, Germany plant took part in a local running event and raised money for a good cause in September.

As part of Johns Manville’s Global Community Day, the site participated in the annual Wertheimer Lauf, a running competition in which 400 runners took to the starting line this year. For every kilometer run by the team, JM donated to “Willkommen in Wertheim” (Welcome to Wertheim), an association with the mission to support refugees and asylum seekers arriving in Wertheim.

“The event was a success in all respects. We strengthened our team spirit, did some sports and supported a good cause at the same time”, said Plant Leader Alexander Üeckert, who also joined the race.

Special congratulations to Karin Horn, Thorsten Christ and Thilo Behringer, who ran the 10 km course and took Second, Third and Fourth place, respectively, in their age groups.  Kudos also go to Maggy the dog, who covered the 4.5 km distance in a remarkable time of 00:47:13.

In addition to the athletic performances, the team also hosted a booth to inform interested young people about Johns Manville.
