BURSI Program Celebrates 50 Years

In 1972, Johns Manville launched the Built-Up Roofing Systems Institute (BURSI) to provide further education around commercial roofing to the design community. As the industry changed and single ply was introduced as a commercial roofing membrane, BURSI was rebranded to the “Better Understanding of Roofing Systems Institute.” BURSI is now celebrating 50 years of in-person classroom and virtual training.

These education programs are certified by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) and cover an array of topics from system selection to systems above the deck.

In-person spring BURSI sessions are back this year at our Littleton, Colorado Research Center (JMTC) location! We are offering two Level One dates and a brand new Level Two course.

Level One provides an overview of various roofing components, system selection, demos, and a tour of our lab building.

Level Two will include an overview of various codes, modification to a system, testing processes, resiliency consideration, testing demos, and targeted building vertical design focus.

Level Two
