Denver, Colorado (3/7/2002) --- Generally owners of warehouse facilities select a ballasted EPDM roofing membrane, but in the case of the 380,000 square foot Cedar Grove Distribution Center in Shepherdsville, KY, the owner selected a white Johns Manville UltraGard SRT™ 45 FR TPO membrane. The environmentally friendly membrane was selected for its reflective qualities.
General Contractor AML, Inc. awarded the project to Holland Roofing of Louisville. Holland Roofing and AML, have worked together on other very large projects. This project was particularly interesting because it was their largest TPO installation to date.
"This job went really well with TPO," said Randy Clemens, president of Holland Roofing of Louisville. "We were able to install the cap sheets in both full and half sheets. We particularly liked the heat welds. We were able to run the robotic welder quickly, which allowed us to keep the construction on schedule. Holland Roofing has been installing roof systems of this size and larger for more than 15 years and found this installation went very smoothly."
Clemens felt that the Johns Manville inspector on the project, Frank Tittl was very helpful and readily available to answer any questions they might have regarding the membrane. Holland's crews mechanically attached the UltraGard SRT 45 FR membrane after installing ISO 1™ roof insulation over a metal deck. The ease of installation allowed Holland Roofing to complete this fast track design-build project within the time frame required.
