Q:  When installing the polyisocyanurate foam sheathing product, do the seams need to be taped? If so, what kind of tape should be used?

A:  Taping the seams is recommended to minimize air infiltration. Holes or tears in the facing should be repaired. The seams must be taped if the foam sheathing product is being used as a vapor retarder on the inside of a wall. The tape ensures that a continuous vapor retarder is provided. There are two types of tapes recommended, Sheathing tape or housewrap tape. These tapes use an acrylic adhesive. Do not use duct tape or masking tape. Duct tape has a rubber-based adhesive that dries out and falls off. Masking tape is intended for temporary use and easy removal. It won't last long.
