Windmill Blades

Johns Manville nonwoven surfacing veils improve windmill blade performance with smoother surface finish and reduced resin.  They also increase life cycles by reducing stress cracking and UV degradation.

Many of today’s windmill blades include surface mats along with glass rovings.  Each is integral to the design and performance of a blade.

JM’s glass fiber nonwovens are used in prepregs and for stitching on unidirectional or multiaxial fabrics.  They have been developed to fulfill the critical demands of windmill blade manufacturers, including: excellent resin penetration and versatility for combining with textiles.  They are color-stable, ultraviolet resistant and paintable.

JM's glass fiber nonwovens meet a wide range of requirements, including reinforcing gel coat layers and reducing the risk of cracking through greater flexibility and high-resin coating.  In addition, they improve the impact strength and abrasion properties of the resin-rich top layer.  Customized binders ensure that the surface mats perform in your resin system.  And our glass fiber nonwovens offer great draping properties for curved molding forms.
