Engineering

Johns Manville offers engineering opportunities in our locations across the country. We provide internships for those pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, Ceramic/Materials Science, Environmental Engineering, and related fields.  

Each year, managers develop specific projects for our interns based off of current business need. Check out the following list of projects from past interns to see what kind of work you could be doing.

Plant Specific Projects

  • Implement management of change (MOC) process to determine effects of adding improvements to a plant

  • Work with plant engineers to design and develop plant improvements (safety, process, product flow)

  • Create drawings, MOC, and contact suppliers and contractors to implement project into facility for increased production and product quality

  • Improve equipment that helps turn scrap product into high quality sellable material, work with operators of the plant to address the problems with the most effective solution, and calibrate equipment to ensure all sensors are providing correct data

  • Replace equipment to maintain a safe environment and improve mechanical reliability

  • Conduct lean manufacturing design improvements

Capital Projects                                                                                                

  • Create scope of work for contractors to use when completing a project

  • Create budget and schedule for projects using SAP and Microsoft Project

  • Work with plants to understand their areas of need and work with them to create and implement solutions to improve the process and plant

Research & Development

  • Assist researchers with R&D projects

  • Complete various projects ranging from creating lab samples and completing physical testing to developing new lab equipment

  • Learn about the testing methods involved in the ASTM process

  • Work with a variety of equipment to develop a new product or process

  • Analyze cause of failure of fiberization equipment using advanced technology and equipment
