Six Sigma Opens New Doors of Opportunity

Six Sigma is a composite of statistical tools, processes and techniques to identify and correct root causes of variation and defects. It is the use of data to drive performance improvement. This proven discipline and methodology enables Johns Manville to meet corporate strategic goals. What makes Six Sigma different from other management processes is the focus on rapid and sustained benefits.

But, improvements don’t happen by themselves. Employees work in teams on projects to identify root causes and solutions, and implement changes. Those involved receive special training recognized as equivalent to a technical degree, a bachelor’s, or master’s depending on the training track. JM makes a significant investment in the employees involved in Six Sigma and those employees are expected to participate in two projects each year. Some even lead Six Sigma projects full time.

In addition to being a fun way to learn, Six Sigma involvement can be financially rewarding for the individual employee. While the company reaps the benefits of cost savings and efficiencies, some employees are honored with a Blue Ribbon Award that may include a cash prize.
